What does Acupuncture treat?
Acupuncture works in two ways. First, it is unrivaled as a system of preventive medicine. The diagnostic techniques of Chinese medicine are subtle, allowing the practitioner to detect imbalances of energy before they manifest as disease. Second, acupuncture can be used to treat disease once it has manifested, or to treat many common injuries. The World Health Organization (WHO) recognizes the conditions listed here as being effectively treated to full recovery or as palliative care by acupuncture, either as a primary or complementary treatment. Please note that this list does not cover all the conditions that acupuncture treats. In Acupuncture: A Comprehensive Text, written by the Shanghai College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, treatment protocols for even more conditions are described. Acupuncture has been used in China for over 2000 years, and its true scope and efficacy are fully appreciated there.
